Lore / A world beneath our own
Behind the Veil.
Our world. Our time. A war older than either.
02 / The unseen boundary
The Veil is everywhere.
The Veil is the invisible boundary and medium between physical manifestation and supernatural existence. It permeates the material world, allowing supernatural power to act through spirits, possessions, relics, invocations, blessings, and curses.
A sacred refuge or an infernal court can exist within the same creation as an apartment building or a city street. These places are shaped by supernatural influence; they are not entrances to separate universes.
When a being is cast across the Veil, it loses its material manifestation. It returns to the Source, vessel, binding, prison, or supernatural pattern that sustains it. Crossing the Veil is not ordinary travel to another geographical world.
03 / Powers within creation
Heaven. Hell. Earth.
Supernatural power flows from three Sources, always in tension and always seeking expression. Each can change a place, a body, or a life.
Heaven
Revelation / Judgment / Protection
Heaven reveals what is hidden, shields the faithful, and burns away corruption. Its light can bless and condemn in the same breath. Sacred power does not guarantee mercy: to invoke Heaven is to submit to an authority whose purposes may exceed human understanding.
Hell
Temptation / Domination / Corruption
Hell offers power through desire. It twists, curses, and destroys body, mind, and soul. What it grants may come easily, but every gift carries a price. A bargain can become a binding, and the more its power is called upon, the stronger its hold becomes.
Earth
Life / Memory / Renewal
Earth carries life, blood, instinct, and endurance, along with memory, decay, and renewal. It is neither holy nor wicked. It follows the cycles of living things, sacrifice, and transformation. Those who draw upon Earth become part of those cycles rather than masters of them.
04 / Those who see
You are one of the Marked.
You have seen what hides behind the world. Alongside other Marked, you investigate supernatural intrusions and confront the beings that profit from them. Every answer draws you deeper into the war. Every intervention asks what you are prepared to sacrifice.
That knowledge does not erase the person you were. Memory, identity, faith, guilt, love, and loss still matter. A tether—a small, deeply personal object—can remind you of who you are when fear or corruption threatens to take that away.
A worn wedding ring. A child’s folded drawing. A sealed letter you have never dared to open. In a world of vast powers, the things that keep you human can be small enough to carry in a pocket.
05 / Faith & uncertainty
Seeing is not understanding.
No investigator begins with all the answers. Two Marked can witness the same apparition and reach different conclusions, shaped by their upbringing, education, fears, and faith.
Belief offers a starting point. What you uncover can affirm it, fracture it, or transform it. The question is not only what waits beyond the Veil, but what you will become as you learn to face it.
